While a buy-and-hold philosophy can work, we recognized early on that we were not willing to endure the painful declines of the inevitable bear market.

In fact, some of the reps we work with call that passive approach a "sit and take it" strategy.

That's because when the market declines or a chosen asset class falls out of favor, sticking with the same asset allocations means your portfolio sinks as well. And those losses are hard to recover from.

If there's one thing we know, it's that not losing money is more important than maximizing your gains.

That's why we believe in playing defense during market downturns. But when conditions are right, we go on the offense and invest more fully to benefit from the upside.

Playing both offense and defense in response to market conditions, while always managing risk, is how we believe you build long-term wealth.
