Our Story
The ideas and concepts behind Potomac Fund Management were formulated in 1979 when a systems engineer from IBM thought there was a better way to invest than passive asset allocation. The bear market losses of the 1970s made him realize that an active approach was necessary to minimize the pain involved in market declines. He believed that through the use of fundamental and technical analysis, he could invest more actively with a disciplined approach.
By 1987 Potomac Fund Management was founded, a small-town firm with small-town values, ignoring the whims of Wall Street. Now, over three decades later, Potomac is managing money with the same guiding principles.
Our goal at Potomac is simple: provide the best return with the least amount of risk while avoiding catastrophic losses. We are conservative investors by nature who truly believe that by not taking too many risks you can achieve better long term results and more importantly, peace of mind.
